Searching for the ice skating rink at the Nevele

Durning a recent pass though the Catskills I had the idea to find this abandoned ice skating rink. The Nevele resort only closed fairly recently, 2009, but has certainly succumb to the elements (and vandals) quite quickly.

Old areal photo of the Nevele resort when it was operational.

The first building we came upon seemed to be a staff house. It was very large and seemed like it must have been a fun place to stay.

While exploring the main building we came upon the theater. It was fun to imagine the sounds of people laughing and the buzz that this space must have been.

We passed though a few other spaces while exploring.

We went down a hallway past the lobby when I happened to see some tile on the wall. I looked around because I had a feeling that there must have been an indoor pool nearby, but the doors were boarded up. There was a hole in the wood and I peered in, low and behold there was the indoor pool. We walked around the back and found an open door.

From the pool area we found a gym then out the window I spotted the ice skating rink.

There seemed to be evidence that they are thinking about restoring this ice rink as well as the main tower of the resort. I hope to return one day and see people enjoying this space yet again.

I plan to make a video about this resort and put it on my youtube channel. Look for it soon.
